Sediment sampling

NUI has developed an ROV operated gas-tight seabed sampler where the sample content is maintained in compliance with NORSOK U-100. We are accreditated for parts of the methods/analyses.

Sediment sampling

Prior to manned underwater operations in conformance with NORSOK U-100

According to NORSOK U-100, gas tight sediment samples shall be extracted from the worksite and analyzed prior to manned underwater operations. Sediment residue on the clothing and equipment of saturation divers may contaminate the breathing atmosphere of the dive bell and the overall hyperbaric living facilities. The NUI sediment sampler meets the new NORSOK U-100 requirements for gas-tight seabed sampling and analysis. The sampler ensures that the sampler content is maintained, and allows for direct analysis of vapour and gases at our laboratory.

Gas analyses from sediment samples include:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).

Other analyses from sediment samples include:

  • Total hydrocarbon (C10-C40) in the sediment.
  • Mercury (Hg) in the sediment.
  • Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in pore water.
